Let’s talk Ostinato…
In music, ostinato is a repeated melodic phrase that occurs throughout a piece of music. One of my favourite activities is to challenge pupils to see if they can think of any..
In classical music you might head to Bolero or to Mars from Holst’s Planets. In popular music you might cast your mind to Bastille’s Pompeii (“ey ey oh ey oh, ey ey oh, ey oh”) or the White Stripe’s Seven Nation Army.
Ted actually led the lesson today, bringing a range of Harry Potter music with him that he wanted to listen to and sing. I then remembered I had a full set of these! We listened to the six layered “Mysterious Ticking Noise” and tried to play all six parts between us. Six puppets between two lead to some pretty hilarious results and lots of laughter!
This boy is utter sunshine and i am so proud of him and the progress he is making. What a star
Huge congratulations to Isobel who has successfully achieved her Copper and Bronze ABRSM Music Medals for Descant Recorder!
